Based on what I’m reading there, I have a lot less respect for the whole concept of “standards bodies” and the committees that define our specifications. My naiveness and idealism are obvious once again as I would have believed that these groups represent experts contributing based on what’s the right thing to do. Apparently, politics and self-interest are as prevalent here as in any other walk of life. I’d like to believe I’d feel the same way if it were IBM who was railroading a standard.
